Well Water Process
At Villagree, we handle the entire well water process. From research and permitting to drilling oversight and connection, you'll have confidence in your water source from day one.
In many parts of Colorado, especially rural and foothill properties, homes rely on private wells for water instead of city connections.
What the Well Water Process Looks Like
- Groundwater Access
- A well is drilled deep into an aquifer (a natural underground layer of water-bearing rock or sand) and a pump brings water up for residential use.
- Storage & Pressure
- Water is stored in a pressure tank and delivered through a filtration system into the home, just like city water. A constant-pressure tank allows for stronger, consistent water pressure.
- Water Testing & Quality Control
- Every well is tested for bacteria, contaminants, and flow rate to ensure it’s safe and sufficient for household use.
Colorado Aquifer Options
The type and depth of well are determined by your lot’s location and assigned water rights, which are regulated by the Colorado Division of Water Resources, and allow access to one of several aquifers:
- Dawson Aquifer (shallowest, often best flow in the Denver Basin)
- Denver Aquifer
- Arapahoe Aquifer
- Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer (deepest, lowest flow)
Important Considerations
- Well Permits Are Mandatory
- Villagree works with licensed well contractors and geologists to secure the appropriate permit before drilling based on your intended water usage and zoning.
- Well Water Rights Vary by Parcel
- Some lots include domestic well rights (indoor use only), while others allow irrigation or livestock watering. Verify all legal uses in advance.
- Drilling Depth Affects Cost
- Deeper aquifers like Laramie-Fox Hills can be more expensive to reach, but sometimes necessary in limited-flow zones or based on water rights.
- Filtration May Be Required
- Depending on mineral content (iron, manganese, hardness), we can install whole-home filtration or softening systems to ensure clean, clear water.
