WINTER BUILDING

We build through winter. We plan for it too. How cold weather impacts construction.

Winter Building

In Colorado, winter doesn’t stop building, it just changes how we approach it. At Villagree, we don’t delay your dream home when temperatures drop. Instead, we adapt with precision, planning, and materials that perform in all seasons.

From foundation pours to interior finishes, winter building requires experience, weather-aware scheduling, and the right systems in place.

Key Considerations When Building in Winter

  1. Advanced Planning
  • Careful schedule considerations required
  • Strategically allocate labor and equipment

  1. Foundation & Concrete Work
  • Requires ground thawing or heating blankets
  • May include additives for cold-weather curing
  • Delays can occur during extreme cold or snow
  • We pre-plan excavation and pour schedules with flexibility

  1. Framing & Roofing
  • Framing can continue in most winter conditions
  • Snow must be cleared from work areas
  • Roofing may be temporarily sealed until tile can be installed in warmer conditions

  1. Exterior Finishes
  • Stucco, paint, and siding may be delayed due to temperature-sensitive materials
  • We prioritize getting the home “dried in” so interior work can continue and reduce delays

  1. Site Access & Utilities
  • Driveway access must be cleared and safe for crews
  • Water and sewer installations may be paused if the ground is frozen
  • Gas lines, septic, and electrical trenching require flexible scheduling

  1. Interior Work
  • Drywall, cabinetry, flooring, and trim continue as scheduled once the home is weather-tight
  • Engineered hardwood is preferred for winter installs due to better moisture resistance and climate stability
  • Site-finished hardwood is discouraged due to fluctuating indoor humidity and curing conditions
